As you will know, Salesforce splashed the cash big, when they acquired Slack for a whopping $27.7 Billion. This purchase was Salesforce's biggest ever acquisition and raised eyebrows everywhere.
But, was Benioff a visionary. He spotted the potential Slack + Salesforce combined would have, and that's been made clear in his latest statement, where he claimed that Salesforce were going to redesign all of the Salesforce technology to become Slack-first!
Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, workplace habits and working environments have shifted immensely. More companies and their employees are adopting a mix between working from home and working in the office. This means flexible communication channels are needed in order to maintain business success.
This is where platforms like Slack have proven to be essential for both working environments. Between March 10th and March 25th of 2020, Slack's users had risen from ten million to 12.5 million. It's no surprise that Salesforce saw the opportunity to own and develop the popular application to their own desires.
Outlined in the company's annual letter, the integration with Slack has already improved, one of the core Salesforce products, Service Cloud, by improving their case closed rate by 26%. The idea is that Slack will help Salesforce customers to be more connected to their own customers and speed up the rates at which customer services queries are completed.
Essentially, Salesforce's acquisition of Slack will bring a whole new element of customer connection to businesses with Benioff stating that Slack will be "the central nervous system for the new world of work".
All of a sudden that $27 billion dollar acquisition, is looking like a very shrewd move by Salesforce.
